Together, these efforts are helping move advanced transportation technologies from the laboratory into real-world applications while providing the data needed to support informed statewide planning.
The 2026 Annual Report reflects this progress while identifying opportunities for continued collaboration among government, industry, utilities, academia, and communities across the state.
About the Utah Electrification Initiative
The Utah Electrification Initiative was established through Senate Bill 125 (2023) to develop a statewide action plan for transportation electrification. Signed into law by Governor Spencer J. Cox on March 23, 2023, the legislation designated the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center at Utah State University to lead the Initiative and coordinate research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning.
The Initiative is guided by a Steering Committee, chaired by the Executive Director of the Utah Department of Transportation, with strategic input from an Industry Advisory Board teams representing utilities, transportation, energy, manufacturing, and other key sectors. Together, these groups help ensure Utah’s transportation electrification strategy reflects statewide priorities while leveraging technical expertise from across the public and private sectors.
Through research, real-world demonstrations, data-driven analysis, and collaboration, the Utah Electrification Initiative is helping Utah prepare for the future of transportation while informing investments in infrastructure, technology, and policy.
