Electrified Roadways Modeling & Planning Services
Building on the Center’s strong fundamental research background, our Systems of Systems approach integrates cutting-edge research and development with practical transportation planning, power systems, hardware design and installation, along with attention to cybersecurity, environmental and social perspectives. We help organizations develop robust strategies for electrified transportation that are sustainable and scalable.
This can be seen in our work leading the Utah Intelligent Electrified Transportation Action Plan. In addition to collaborating with technical researchers, industry experts, communities, and government agencies at all levels, ASPIRE drives data- and market-driven solutions by strategically deploying innovative technologies, demonstrating the real-world benefits of electrification across Utah and beyond.
Services Include:
- Energy Diversity Analysis: Informs decisions on how to best leverage energy resources
- Site Planning: Construction and civil engineering support for projects ranging from single-use implementation to shared infrastructure and multi-modal hubs
- Community Envisioning: Collaborative, community-led urban e-transportation planning, envisioning process, and scenario development support
- Scenario Modeling: Enables decision-makers and stakeholders to compare the outcomes of various planning and implementation alternatives
- E-Transportation Planning: Combines traditional transportation planning principles with specialized expertise in electrified transportation.
These services build on ASPIRE’s real-world applications in:
- Indiana:
Indiana Department of Transportation Pilot
1/4-mile Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) on US231/52.
- Florida:
Central Florida Expressway Pilot
1/2-mile Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) on new SR516.
- Utah:
Utah Inland Port demonstrations
World’s first 1 MW static wireless charger and 1/4-mile Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT, or in-motion charging) electrified roadway near the port.
E-Transit Innovations
Developing battery-electric passenger trains with Stadler Rail.
Electric Vehicle & Roadway (EVR) Facility
Hardware and software development and testing.
