High-efficiency, High-density Power Electronics for xEV Applications

Dragan Maksimovic, University of Colorado Boulder

In an xEV drivetrain, a power electronics converter manages power flow between a battery pack and an electric machine. Innovations in converter topologies and use of wide bandgap power devices are enabling more efficient, more reliable, and smaller power electronics, as illustrated by a 98% efficient, 23 kW/L drivetrain power converter prototype developed by the team at CU-Boulder.
