Events:

Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting

This January 5-9 was the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board, who convened in Washington, D.C. Representatives from ASPIRE attended and presented at this meeting designed to cover all modes of transportations, with presentations addressing a variety of topics of interests for government, industry, and academic representatives.

  • Pedestrian Crossing Behaviors at Signalized Intersections in Utah: Factors Affects Spatial and Temporal Violations
Amie Rafe; Patrick Singleton; & Sadie Boyer, Utah State University with Michelle Mekker, High Street Consulting Group, LLC

2025 CERV Conference

In Park City, Utah, followed by a technology showcase at ASPIRE’s EVR facility in Logan, Utah, the 2025 CERV Conference convened from February 9-12. This biennial conference offered participants an opportunity for networking, investigating new technology, and increasing general awareness and understanding of the global future of transportation electrification. Some presentations at the event were from ASPIRE representatives, including:

  • We’ve Been Down This Road Before: A Long History of America’s Highway Transportation Infrastructure (pictured above)
Amanda Katz, Assistant Professor, History, Utah State University
  • The Grid of the Future: Challenges and Opportunities, Balancing Energy Resources, Infrastructure, and Load Growth
Masood Parvania, Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor, University of Utah
  • R&D on Electric Road Systems — Latest Developments, Practical Considerations, Gaps and Priorities to Meet Grand Challenge Roadmaps
Grant Covic, Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering Professor, University of Auckland
  • Regional and National Level Planning and Policy for Intelligent Electrified Transportation Systems
Jason Quinn, Mechanical Engineering Professor, Colorado State University

Utah Conference of Undergraduate Research (UCUR) & Utah’s Research on Capitol Hill (ROCH)

Undergraduate research at ASPIRE was presented at several Utah events. These annual events, designed to showcase undergraduate students’ work from Utah’s public research institutions, offered students the opportunity to share their research with citizens, media reporters, legislators, and individuals from Utah’s governor’s office. Lucy Peterson, a member of the ASPIRE Market Intelligence team, presented at her research with Dr. Janette Goodridge at UCUR. ASPIRE undergraduate student researcher William Bouck presented his and Patrick Singleton’s research at both of these events. See their publications listed below for the titles of his presentations.

SCP Annual Conference

This year’s Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) Annual Conference was held from February 27 to March 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. From Utah State University, Antje Graul, in conjunction with master student Sajid Bin Hasnat, represented ASPIRE with their research on the use of incentives to accelerate electric vehicle adoption. See their publication listed below for additional information.

Tools & Technology Developments:

  • Version of the queryable graph has been developed by Noah Horesh and is working locally to enable searches among posters from the Annual Meeting.
  • Created spacial grids and ran onroad baseline for UT and TX.
  • DWPT Cost Tool developed by Adeeba Raheem (University of Texas, El Paso), Noah Horesh (Colorado State University), and Tyler Munk (Utah State University).
  • Finalized the Cell Transmission Model (CTM) for problem formulation. This is a calibration model for a corridor of highway, which forecasts electrified roadways’ demands minute-by-minute.
