Basil Sharp is Energy Education Chair in Energy and Resource Economics, and Director of the Energy Centre, at The University of Auckland. Basil received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in resource economics. His research focuses on the application of economics and econometric methods to contemporary energy, resource and environmental problems. A recent focus has been on the impact of renewables on electricity prices, complementarity of hydro and wind energy, energy efficiency, and electrification of transport. Basil sees collaboration across the disciplines as essential when tackling real world energy challenges and is keen to see the findings of academic research translated into applications of benefit to industry, government and the community.
